Cuba Fires Back at Trump at the UN

“Cuba is not a threat. The blockade is.”

“In Cuba, it’s well known that we face multidimensional aggression from the U.S. government, a permanent, abusive and ruthless hostility that has now lasted seven decades.”

“Since January 2026, it has intensified and become crueler and more dangerous with the establishment of an energy blockade that, through intimidation and coercion, prohibits all countries from exporting fuel to Cuba, which amounts to a naval blockade, classified under international law as an act of war.”

“The economic war is waged against the people. It falls upon the Cuban population as a whole. It takes lives, causes individual and collective pain, and causes anguish.”

 “It is not collateral damage. It is a policy deliberately designed to hit Cuban families where it hurts most, prevent their well-being and wound the dignity of the people. It is an act of collective punishment.”

“As described by the secretary of state, the official policy of the United States is to shut off every valve, outlet or means of survival for Cuba. The president of the United States declared from this podium a few days ago that Cuba is a failed state.” 

“If that were the case, why then did they have to impose a fuel blockade? More than 7,000 containers have been held at various ports, many of them containing food, medicines and medical devices, and many were contracted by private Cuban companies.”

“They go so far as to pressure sovereign governments to unprecedented levels to make them give up medical services they requested from us for the benefit of their respective populations and that Cuban professionals selflessly provide, because the U.S. government opposes such cooperation, regardless of the effect or harm to the populations left without free, high-quality medical care. In other words, they’re deprived of a basic human right.”

“The president of the United States also acknowledged that his government is applying the greatest pressure ever exerted on Cuba. Months earlier he had said, and I quote: ´All that's left is to go in and destroy the place.´”
