July 3, 2026
Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez accused the U.S. State Department of carrying out “pressure, blackmail and threats” to derail a debate about the U.S. blockade at the United Nations General Assembly on July 7.
According to Rodríguez, the U.S. State Department is pressuring governments to prevent the session from taking place. He also claimed that Washington is circulating documents urging countries not to support Cuba at the UN.

"The State Department's diplomatic machinery is trying to prevent the United Nations General Assembly from considering a matter of global interest and enormous urgency by using pressure, blackmail and threats," said Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, Cuba's Minister of Foreign Affairs.
"There are three U.S. documents that form the basis of the pressure the U.S. is exerting on diplomats. One is a document with threats of extraterritorial and punitive measures, unilateral coercive measures," he said.
"A second document is circulating. Its opening line reads: 'The regime must reform. Don't vote for its propaganda,'" Rodríguez Parrilla said.
"There is a third, completely slanderous document, which attempts to portray Cuba as a belligerent party in the war in Ukraine. It's full of lies. No evidence," he concluded.
