UN Overwhelmingly Condemns U.S. Embargo on Cuba — Again

Despite a pressure campaign by the U.S. government, 165 countries voted at the UN to end the embargo on Cuba. Only 7 opposed, and 12 abstained. It’s the 33rd straight year of overwhelming global rejection.

"The assembly will now take a decision on draft resolution A/80/L.6, entitled 'Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial and Financial Embargo Imposed by the United States of America Against Cuba,'" announced Annalena Baerbock, President of the 80th General Assembly of the United Nations.

"A recorded vote has been requested. We shall now begin the voting process," Baerbock continued.

"Those in favor of draft resolution A/80/L.6, please signify," she stated.

"Those against?" Baerbock asked.

"Abstentions?" she added.

"The result of the vote is as follows: in favor, 165; against, 7; abstentions, 12," Baerbock declared.

"Draft resolution A/80/L.6 is adopted," concluded the President of the General Assembly.
