Rep. Salazar Defends Causing Hunger of Mothers and Children in Cuba
For Rep. María Elvira Salazar (R-FL), the suffering of mothers and children is a price worth paying for regime change in Cuba.
She took to X yesterday to celebrate Trump’s signing of an executive order that threatens to impose additional tariffs on countries that send oil to Cuba. Salazar, a Cuban-American hardliner who heads the foreign affairs subcommittee that oversees U.S. policy in Latin America, pushed for even further suffocation of the island.
“This is the moment to stop everything: no more tourism, no more remittances,” wrote Salazar, who earns $174,000 a year as a representative. “And yes, I understand: it’s devastating to think about a mother’s hunger, a child who needs immediate help. No one is indifferent to that pain. But that is precisely the brutal dilemma we face as exiles: to alleviate short-term suffering or to free Cuba forever.”
