The Role
Belly of the Beast is seeking a full-time Writer/Editor to join our editorial team.
Responsibilities:
• Write and edit our weekly newsletter
• Edit and refine video subtitles and scripts
• Write and edit reported articles
• Produce clear, compelling social media copy
• Support breaking news coverage and rapid-response analysis
This role requires strong editorial judgment, speed without sacrificing accuracy, and a deep understanding of the political dynamics shaping Cuba and U.S.–Cuba relations.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Proven track record of professional writing and reporting in English
• Advanced proficiency in Spanish (reading and editing required)
• Ability to work under tight deadlines and shifting news cycles
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Flexible schedule aligned with a fast-moving newsroom
Preferred:
• Experience covering Cuba and/or U.S.–Cuba relations
• Based in Miami or Washington, D.C.
