Exclusive: Inside the U.S. Deportation Flights to Cuba
August 29, 2025
Description
Over 150 people were deported from the United States to Cuba on August 28. It was the eighth deportation flight this year. Cuba has continued to honor its bilateral migration agreement with the U.S. even as the Trump administration has ratcheted up the U.S. government’s economic war on the country.
More than a million Cubans have left the island in the past five years, the biggest emigration wave in Cuban history. Most of them have gone to the United States. Cubans have long had a relatively privileged immigration status in the U.S. But Trump revoked the legal status and work permits of hundreds of thousands of Cubans, putting them at risk of deportation.
