Cuban Government Responds to ‘Foiled Terror Operation Originated in Florida’

February 27, 2026

Cuban authorities say they seized assault and sniper rifles, ammunition, night-vision equipment, and emblems linked to what they describe as terrorist counterrevolutionary groups after intercepting an armed infiltration attempt by 10 individuals who arrived by boat from Florida, approaching the island’s shores on Wednesday morning.

The Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister, Carlos Fernández de Cossío says Havana has been in contact with U.S. counterparts since the outset of the incident.

Two of the suspects were reportedly on a Cuban terror watchlist previously shared with Washington.

Cossío stresses the incident is not isolated, citing what they describe as a long history of violent plots against Cuba. Their investigation remains ongoing.
