Cuban Diplomat Calls Out U.S. Ambassador at UN

October 28, 2025

At the UN today, U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz said he would “correct the fake news” about Cuba – then unleashed a barrage of it himself. Cuba’s FM cut him off: “This is the UN General Assembly, not a Signal chat.”

“Some of you—many of you, frankly, some as recently as this morning—tell us privately that since the regime cares so much about this vote, you just want to appease it. You just want to go with the flow and go with the crowd. That’s what you tell us privately. But colleagues, let me suggest today that you do something different this year,” said Mike Waltz, U.S. Ambassador at the United Nations.

“The United States and the Trump administration want to set the record straight when it comes to this resolution, and to correct the fake news, the misinformation, and this false reality the regime seeks to create year after year with this vote,” continued Waltz. “The facts are this is an illegitimate and brutal regime that seeks to cast itself as the victim of aggression, while plainly describing itself as, quote, ‘the enemy of the United States.’”

“It’s located just 90 miles off our shore. It conspires and collaborates with enemies and adversaries of the United States against our interests. The facts are that this regime supports terrorist organizations around the globe. It is allowing mercenaries to fight in the war in Ukraine. It’s propping up the Venezuelan regime,” he said, before being interrupted.

“I’m sorry to interrupt,” said the U.N. moderator, “but there’s a point of order from Cuba.”

“The representative of the United States is not only lying and deliberately diverting from the topic at hand,” responded Cuba’s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, “but he is speaking in a rude and arrogant manner toward the presidency of this session, against the dignity of this Assembly and of its member states. He does so with a lack of culture, crudeness, and arrogance that is unacceptable in this great and democratic forum.”

“Mr. Waltz,” concluded the Cuban diplomat, “this is the United Nations General Assembly. It is not a designated group, nor is it the House of Representatives."
