Cuba has warned international airlines it will run out of jet fuel from Tuesday, February 10.
Aircraft will be unable to refuel at any of the country’s international airports for at least a month.
Cuba’s civil aviation authority says airports will remain operational, but the jet fuel shortage is forcing airlines flying long-haul to refuel in nearby third countries or even cancel flights.
On February 5, Rep. Carlos A. Gimenez (R-FL) called on US airlines to cancel all flights to Cuba.
Cuba has suffered devastating fuel shortages after the U.S. stopped oil shipments from Venezuela in December.
U.S. President Donald Trump has since threatened tariffs on any nation sending fuel to the island.
Mexico, Cuba’s last remaining major fuel source, has paused oil shipments.
