“Yesterday, there was an event of regional solidarity with Cuba, where it was stated that at the upcoming Summit of the Americas, to be held in the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua will be excluded,” said Emir Olivares, journalist for La Jornada

“Do you have a position on this? And also, will you be attending the summit?” he added.

“No, I will not attend,” replied Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico firmly.

“Will there be any representation from Mexico?” Olivares followed up.

“Well, that’s what we’re looking into,” explained Sheinbaum, “to see if someone from the Foreign Ministry might go. But personally, first of all, we’ve never agreed with the exclusion of any country. And besides, given the current circumstances, I have to stay focused on the country—especially because of the ongoing emergency,” Sheinbaum concluded.
